Fully interactive database-linked maps

  • Type: Visualization
  • Project: Global Domesticates Project
  • PI / Entity: Professor Jared Diamond (UCLA)
  • Status: Ongoing

One goal of this project was to collect temporal and spatial data on the earliest instances of domesticated plants and animals worldwide, and then query and analyze those results. To do this, a database-linked map was created that dynamically loads project data, assigns it a particular status depending on where it is located (green or red), and then links all available data associated with that point. Then, users can query their category of choice, either by looking at individual types of plants or animals, or choosing only those items that date to a certain period of time.
